Max and Lori Kurman

On Sunday, September 22, 2019, the Kurman family will again be participating in the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation Team for Cures 5K Walk/Run. This event is one of nine in the nation that raises much needed funds and awareness for Multiple Myeloma research.

Team Kurman has set a personal goal of raising $3,000 and we need your help to reach it. We are continuing to raise money for Myeloma research because our father, Michael Kurman, lost his almost 10 year battle with the disease at the age of 62 on November 1, 2010. He had received treatments beginning the spring of 2001 until he passed away. Although we mourn his loss, we feel very blessed; he survived almost six full years longer than expected, not only because of his positive outlook on life, but because of the tremendous job his doctors and researchers did. From the time of his original diagnosis, he saw all three of his children wed and became a grandfather of six. Although he did not live to see his seventh grandchild, she was named in his memory. Mikayla sure has some big shoes to fill!

Multiple Myeloma is a deadly form of blood cancer that affects the plasma cells. It is the second most common blood cancer and the third fastest growing cancer in terms of mortality in people over 65. Currently, there is no cure for Multiple Myeloma, but thanks to new research and new therapeutic drugs being developed; there is a great deal of hope.

Since its inception, the MMRF has helped introduce seven new drugs and through the power of new technology, genomics, and immunology, lives are now being saved. 90% of the total budget goes to research and related programming.

We would greatly appreciate your support for this wonderful organization.

Thank you in advance for donations in memory of our father. He would have wanted us to continue the MMRF’s mission to find a cure for Multiple Myeloma.
