True Believers

In January 2017 when my husband Adam was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, my whole world changed. Suddenly we were educating ourselves on cancer, Adam started chemotherapy right away and we began preparing for a stem cell transplant. I felt anxious, overwhelmed, and helpless. But most of all I was dealing with the heartache that a diagnosis like this brings to a family.

Adam treated this as an obstacle that he simply needed to overcome and began to make changes to prepare his body to fight. He drastically adjusted his diet, began making sleep a priority, and continued to stay calm and positive. His attitude was one that we needed to adopt as a family. The strength and positive nature that Adam has maintained over the past two years is incredible.

We also found strength in so many ways, from the promising new treatments for multiple myeloma, to the amazing response Adam has had towards treatment, and the unwavering love and support of our friends and family. The acts of kindness, prayers, and generosity of others has brought us to tears on many occasions and also provided us with strength, hope, and courage.

Adam’s stem cell transplant went well, and the amount of cancer detected was decreasing. Life was getting back to normal. When we looked back at 2017, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) was an organization that provided a lot of resources for us to learn about this disease. The MMRF was making huge advances in the treatment options for patients with multiple myeloma. We decided that it was critical to play our part in fundraising because there is currently no cure for multiple myeloma, and we need that cure for Adam and all others diagnosed.

So, in 2018 we decided to fundraise towards a cure and walk in a 5K that was held by the MMRF. So many friends and family members decided that we weren’t going to walk alone, and they joined our team True Believers. True Believers grew to over 80 team members who collectively raised over $20,000. WOW, right!

It’s amazing what can happen when people come together to support each other and make a difference! We will be walking again in a family/pup friendly 5K at Carson Beach in South Boston on April 28, 2019. Together we can make a difference, stay positive, spread awareness and fundraise for a cure.

Please consider becoming a True Believer and joining us! Thank you for reading our story and for any type of support you can provide, anything from prayers, participation, and donations are all greatly appreciated.

* Also, many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. You can search your company here or ask your Human Resources Department!

We hope you can join us, thank you again for your continued support!
