RACE FOR WES!
Join our family for the 7th annual RACE For WES Event to honor the man we all know and miss so dearly!
In the past 6 years our team alone has raised over $22,000 for Multiple Myeloma Research with the help of our wonderful family and friends!
In April 2012, Wes went to the doctor after experiencing a lot of pain in his lower back. The pain was so severe he could no longer work which landed him on Short Term Disability. He was unable to enjoy everyday living and the sports he loved so much (golfing, softball and bowling). After 3 agonizing months doctors, appointments, undergoing countless tests, scans, he contracted a Fungal Lung Infection, had many MRIs, X-Rays, procedures; then on July 19, 2012 Wes, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma. By this time there were many Doctors and medications prescribed to help him manage the day-to-day tremendous pain he experienced. Wes, Bev, Katie, Erik and Brandon were all devastated by the news. Cancer entered our family.
Wes began aggressive treatments which included chemo and radiation. Unfortunately the Myeloma was very aggressive and while it continued to attack the vertebrae in his spine causing many compression fractures, we also learned he would have a difficult battle with the lung infection as Multiple Myeloma compromises your immune system. There were several procedures to inject "bone cement" into the compressed vertebrae to help give some stability to his spine.
Just shy of 2 months into his treatment including 2 rounds of Chemo/Radiation along with the Cancer drug and pain medications, Wes lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma on September 13, 2012.
Funds that are raised through events such as this have helped to:
-Double patient survival, deliver 6 new treatments in less than a decade and brought 23 new treatments into clinical trails.
