On Sunday, September 15, 2019 Tracy and I will be participating in the MMRF Team for Cures: Chicago 5K Walk/Run at Montrose Harbor. Please join us in supporting the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), an organization that has used speed and accuracy to help accelerate treatments and extend lives for Multiple Myeloma patients. For the past eight years Team Tracy has been a top fundraiser at this event. Last year we raised over $20,000 and our eight-year total is almost $161,000. Your support has been incredible!!! And a special thank you to our friends and family that forgo their sleep to walk or run with us early on a Sunday morning! Your participation means a lot to us!
Tracy was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in December of 2010 and immediately began several months of chemotherapy. She underwent an autologous stem cell transplant in July of 2011 and has been in remission ever since. Multiple Myeloma is the second most common blood cancer and is cancer of the plasma cells. These cells normally help fight off infection but when cancerous cells build up they eventually damage the body, usually affecting bones. The cells often linger undetected after initial treatment and attack the body again. New chemotherapy treatments are needed to combat relapse when it occurs. The MMRF has helped 11 drugs receive FDA approval in the time it normally takes for one. Immunotherapy is currently one of their exciting areas of research. Also, the innovative MMRF CureCloud was recently introduced to all myeloma patients. CureCloud will use patient genetic, immune and clinical information to develop data driven patient-specific treatment plans. Tracy was honored to participate in a small beta test of the CureCloud last year.
The MMRF cannot continue to be a leading cancer research organization without your help. Please make a secure, tax-deductible, online donation in support of our efforts.
