Hoping For a Cure!

Cheryl Hozid

Cheryl Hozid

In November 2013 I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. I enjoyed three years of remission after a stem cell transplant however, in June of 2017, I relapsed. For 10 months in 2018 I was on Immunotherapy treatments made possible just 2 1/2 years ago by the important research of the MMRF (Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation). Unfortunately, this treatment was not enough to put me into remission so, in December 2018 I began chemotherapy treatments once again. The MMRF is removing obstacles faster and extending lives. But we need your help.

This year, I will be participating, for the 6th time since my diagnosis, in the MMRF Team for Cures 5K Walk/Run. I have committed to raising awareness and funds to accelerate finding a cure for multiple myeloma, which is the second most common blood cancer and is incurable. Your generosity truly makes a difference, as funds raised at this event in the past have helped to:

Nearly triple patient survival
Deliver ten new treatments in a decade
Launched over 80 new clinical trials

The mission of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is to find a cure for multiple myeloma by relentlessly pursuing innovation that accelerates the development of next-generation treatments to extend the lives of patients. Founded in 1998 by Kathy Giusti, a multiple myeloma patient, and her twin sister Karen Andrews as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, the MMRF is a world-recognized leader in cancer research. Together with its partners, the MMRF has created the only end-to-end solution in precision medicine and the single largest genomic dataset in all cancers. The MMRF continues to disrupt the industry today, as a pioneer and leader at the helm of new research efforts.

Since its inception, the organization has raised over $400 million and directs nearly 90% of the total funds to research and related programs. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for 16 years. To learn more, visit themmrf.org.

Please support my participation in the MMRF Team for Cures 5K Walk/Run. Your donation will have a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of patients and their families!

Hoping for a cure,
Team Cheryl
