Pam's 15th Race for Research

Pam’s 15th Race for Research -

Pamela was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2004, 15 years ago. MM is cancer of the plasma cells in the blood that attacks the bone marrow and remains incurable today. Based on the treatments available in 2004, Pam’s prognosis was for life expectancy of about 2½ years. Thanks to the financial support of donors like you, Pam and others like her are living longer with ongoing chemotherapy/immunotherapy, treating MM as a chronic disease. Doctors no longer estimate life expectancy, as patients are now living decades with the development of new drugs and combinations of drugs.

I am SO VERY GRATEFUL for your support in helping to extend Pamela’s life!

Pam’s Most Difficult Year -

Unfortunately, Pam must continue to take chemotherapy/immunotherapy drugs (one 5-hour infusion each month) in order to keep the disease under control. The side effects of the chemotherapy are very hard on her body and they are affecting her quality of life, but her determination and very positive attitude enable her to cope with them. Pamela will need to be on chemotherapy for the rest of her life ... UNTIL A CURE IS FOUND!

In addition to treatment for MM, last August she commenced 15 rounds of radiation treatment for breast cancer with successful results. Then in November she commenced 30 rounds of radiation treatment, including two 4-day periods of continuous chemotherapy for anal cancer. It is still too soon to conclusively determine the results of this treatment, but early indications are encouraging. Then starting in February 2019 Pam spent 42 days in the hospital with gastro-intestinal problems which, after many medical tests concluded that she now has a food allergy to dairy products, but other causes have not been fully ruled out.

Looking Ahead -

As the world's number one funder of multiple myeloma research, the MMRF has raised over $350 million to fund research worldwide. It is in the top 1% of nonprofit organizations and has excellent fundraising accreditations. I hope you will be able to support my efforts and this wonderful organization. I thank you in advance for your kindness, generosity and compassion!

Gary

p.s. Your ongoing support of my fundraiser over the past 14 years has enabled me to raise over $135,000 for the MMRF. I am SO HUMBLED by your support. THANK YOU!
