Billie's Family & Friends
Join Us on October 7th! The MMRF is removing obstacles faster and extending lives. But we need your help.
The "Billie's Family & Friends (BFF)" team was formed in memory of Billie "Ray" Johnson who departed this life in 2014 after a courageous 17 year battle with multiple myeloma. Ray was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1997 a year before the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) was established. At that time the life expectancy for multiple myeloma patients was 3 years and there was very little information about and research being done on the disease. The MMRF's urgent and revolutionary work with researchers, clinicians and partners in the pharmaceutical industry sparked new hope for us and dramatically changed the treatment landscape. Ray benefitted from at least 5 of the 10 new FDA-approved multiple myeloma treatments that the MMRF has been instrumental in the launch of in less than a decade. The majority of his treatments were through clinical trials (Phase I, II and III). We thank God for blessing Ray to live a quality life for most of those 17 years and pray that the MMRF will continue to help speed the development of new drugs because time makes all the difference for a multiple myeloma patient.
This will be our 5th year participating in the MMRF Team for Cures 5K Walk/Run. We are committed to raising awareness and funds to accelerate finding a cure for multiple myeloma, which is the second most common blood cancer and is currently incurable. Your generosity truly makes a difference, as funds raised at this event have helped to:
• Nearly triple patient survival
• Deliver ten new treatments in less than a decade
• Launch over 60 new clinical trials
The MMRF was established in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by twin sisters Karen Andrews and Kathy Giusti, soon after Kathy's diagnosis with multiple myeloma. As the world's number-one private funder of multiple myeloma research, the MMRF has raised over $330 million since its inception and directs 90% of total budget to research and related programming.
Please support our participation in the MMRF Team for Cures 5K Walk/Run. Your donation will have a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of patients and their families!
